The story is about an old sculpture artist who has a reunion with his wife who passed away in a dream when he finishes making the sculpture of her.

My goal was to make my thesis a 3D animation film with a focus on cinematic lighting and shading, and also show that I have the ability to design things and direct a film, and understand modeling and other aspects of the pipeline.

 

It is slow-paced, moody, and visually beautifully composited with designed camera shots and atmosphere. I'd play around with various lighting and vintage antique pieces of stuff in design in the final render. It is also very strongly music-driven, I want the audience to smile and feel both sad and good watching it.

The way of the reunion with be very delicately designed if you look at the storyboard I planned. With that said, however, my main characters are stylized humanized rabbits with a handpainted style even if it is 3D. And the background environment will be detailed and rendered with realistic pipeline texture as well. With this, I wanted to create a bit unrealistic animation world that also can be related to the audience.

The very first inspiration I got was from reading the famous Pygmalion mythology during the summer, after that, I came to develop the story after I came across some random news about an Indian guy who spent a year making a wax statue of his dead wife on Twitter.

 

Before that, this thesis was planning to make a tough story about a girl who decides to commit suicide straight. I come to rethink everything upon experiencing so many celebrities' past away from us and the COVID-19 thing this year. I finally decided on this current version story and visual style after rewatching Violet Evergarden by Kyoto Animation. The main theme of the film that I want to tell is, that wherever the people you love may be, they never go away. They always live as long as you remember.
